Since I have an LSD in the rear of the 4Runner and I want to install a lunch box locker I need an open carrier. Anyone have one laying around or know where I can get one cheap? Need to fit an '85 8" Yota 3rd member.

The V6 will work, they are stronger than the 4 cylinder. Find any V6 from 89-95 and I believe the 96-02 4Runners are 8" also. I used to run a V6 in my last truck with the spider gears welded, did it's job.

Just the carrier? Not the whole 3rd. I know the 3rd is stronger. But the part numbers for just the carrier are different on them so I thought they where different. If they aren't then sure.. a V6 carrier will work.

Sean, read this link has a lot of great insight on the Toyota differentials.

home.4x4wire.com/erik/diffs/

I had a the V6 diff running in the front with welded spider gears and a 4 cylinder in the back also with welded gears. If you don't want that V6 open carrier I'll take it, I could use one for my pickup. The best set up is to use the V6 diff in the back and a LC high pinion in the front. The LC high pinion is a reverse cut ring gear based on the V6/turbo design.
